The second edition of Sophie Neville’s “The Making of Swallows and Amazons (1974)” is now available from the Nancy Blackett Shop.
The newly revised edition has just been published by the Lutterworth Press and serves as a time-capsule into the early 1970s, being replete with illustrations, film stills, and colour photographs taken during the production of the original “Swallows and Amazons” film. Drawing from her childhood diaries, Sophie Neville describes her experience as one of the young stars of this enduring family favourite filmed for seven weeks in the Lake District.
“Sophie has reminded me of one of the happiest times I ever spent on a film. The fun that was had, the friendships forged, the challenges overcome, are all delightfully recalled with a freshness and sense of adventure that has made me smile all over again.”
-Virginia McKenna, OBE, actress and founder of Born Free Foundation
At the age of twelve Sophie Neville was cast as Titty in the 1974 adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s “Swallows and Amazons”. As an adult, she has worked extensively on drama and documentary productions for the BBC and is currently President of The Arthur Ransome Society. She can be found touring the country to give frequent talks celebrating his life and legacy.
