This coming weekend, June 3rd and 4th, sees the Nancy Blackett Trust’s AGM and Summer Social on the Saturday, and the flotilla send -off for Nancy Blackett’s commemorative trip to Holland on the Sunday.

For the Saturday Summer Social, meal bookings are now closed, but members and guests are still welcome at the afternoon talks, which start at 2pm and feature local River Pilot Jane Stone and author Julian Lovelock on his recent book “Swallows, Amazons and Coots”. There will also be a special celebration of the 70th birthday of Arthur Ransome’s other boat Peter Duck.

There’s a £5 admission charge – just turn up on the day, or telephone either Judy Taylor on 07939 408430 or Peter Willis on 07979 721901.

On Sunday, the flotilla sails at 12 noon. Everyone is invited to watch the event free of charge from the lawns of the Royal Harwich Yacht Club. Shanty band High Water Mark will be playing from 11am, and refreshments will be available.

Boats wishing to join the flotilla can still join up by contacting the Royal Harwich Yacht Club:

  • by e-mail: office.manager@royalharwich.co.uk
  • or telephone: 01473 780319

A special commemorative flag has been produced to mark the occasion – Flotilla boats will get one free, but they will also be on sale at the Nancy Blackett stall on the day.
