Over the May Bank Holiday weekend Trust members ‘recommissioned’ Nancy Blackett after her long winter lay-up and extensive restoration work, writes Peter Willis…
Saturday saw a team of Trust members transfer everything moveable, including bunk cushions, crockery and cutlery, pots and pans, the spirit stove, books and charts, plus the liferaft and inflatable dinghy, brought aboard, and a start made on rigging the sails.
On Bank Holiday Monday the remainder of the sails were rigged, tests and adjustments made, and finally, with Skipper and Sailing Committee Chairman Phil Durnford at the Helm the ‘team’ – with Trust Chair Robin Sadler, and members Tim Everson, Mike Fry, Tom Harold and Peter Willis – became a ‘crew’ and enjoyed a short ‘shakedown’ sail down the River Orwell, past Pin Mill to Butterman’s Bay and back, just, as Phil put it “to make sure everything worked.”
Happily it all did, and with Nancy Blackett now ready to start receiving bookings to sail her, the crew adjourned to the Royal Harwich Yacht Club for a celebratory drink.Â
