Peter Willis’ new book “Good Little Ship: Arthur Ransome, Nancy Blackett and the Goblin” was launched yesterday evening in front of a full house at a special event hosted by chandlers Arthur Beale, in the heart of London’s West End.

Held in the vestry at St. Giles-in-the-Field, Peter Willis gave an illustrated talk to an appreciative audience,  highlighting the history of Nancy Blackett’s rescue and restoration, as well as her literary legacy and connections via Arthur Ransome and the story that she inspired, “We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea”, which was first published 80 years ago this month, and in which she appeared as the Goblin.

Following the talk, Peter Willis signed copies of his new book before Alisdair Flint, owner of Arthur Beale, invited the audience back to the shop for drinks, nibbles and Christmas shopping.

If you can’t make it to Arthur Beale in London, you can buy your copy of “Good Little Ship: Arthur Ransome, Nancy Blackett and the Goblin” from our Nancy Blackett Shop, where, as part of Nancy Blackett’s Book Month, we’re offering it together with a copy of “We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea” for the special price of £20.
