Uncommon Courage, the new World War II history by Julia Jones which was the subject of her Brian Hammett Memorial Talk last month, is now available online here  in the Nancy Blackett Shop with a 10% discount.

The book details the exploits of yachtsmen such as Peter Scott, Maurice Griffiths, Ian Fleming and many others who joined the ‘Royal Naval Volunteer Supplementary Reserve’ at the outbreak of World War II. With no pay and no uniforms to begin with they used their sailing skills and initiative to assist the Navy in often unorthodox ways. The picture is built up mostly from their own diaries, letters, memoirs, etc.
‘An extraordinary account of heroism and sacrifice… rivetingly told’ – Griff Rhys Jones
