Today we had our best sail of the week so far for the current Nancy Blackett crew, which we’ve dubbed the Riddle of the Sands passage, or possibly the Riddle of the Middle, writes Peter Willis.

An early bridge departure out of Goes got us out into the Oosterschelde by 9:30am on a pleasingly overcast day. A brisk south-south-easterly breeze pushed us up the narrow Brabantsche Vaarwater between sandbanks at up to 5.7 knots. Some seals were spotted on one of them.

We then passed along the Mastgat to the entrance of the Krabbenkreek, where we dropped our sails just as the rain began to set in.

We are now tucked up in Sint-Annaland marina – it’s not the most picturesque that we’ve seen, but it does have a highly recommended restaurant that specialises in seafood, which we plan to visit this evening.

Best wishes from skipper Sue and crew John, Sarah and Peter. Photo: Peter Willis.
