Take the works of Arthur Ransome for inspiration, add over 200 children from eight local schools, a poet, a composer and the City of London Sinfonia and you have the “Shanties on the Shore” creative project – the results of which can be seen and heard in two concerts on Thursday 22nd June at Woolverstone near Ipswich.

The project is part of the Arthur Ransome’s East Coast series of events,  marking 50 years since Arthur Ransome died and 80 years since his book “We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea” was published. With Arts Council support, poet Dean Parkin and composer John K Miles have been working with the children to develop the Ransome-inspired works which will be presented at the concerts.

Participating schools include Chelmondiston Primary School, Holbrook Academy, Holbrook Primary School, Ipswich High School for Girls, the Royal Hospital School, Shotley Primary School, Stutton Primary School and Tattingstone Primary School.

The two 45-minute performances will take place at Woolverstone Hall, the home of Ipswich High School for Girls, in its purpose-built Hayworth Theatre, at 4pm and 6pm.

Tickets cost just £2.20 (including a booking fee) but are free for under-16s, and can be bought via the two links below:
