A Voyage With Nancy Blackett (DVD)
£10.00
This beautifully-photographed TV documentary features footage of Arthur Ransome’s Nancy Blackett, as well as his later boat Peter Duck, under sail on the River Orwell and the Walton Backwaters.
It includes dramatized scenes from We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea and Secret Water, in both of which Nancy Blackett appears as the Goblin.
Commentary is by Christina Hardyment and Roger Wardale and there are contributions from Josephine Russell, whom Arthur Ransome taught to sail aboard Nancy Blackett; Hugh Brogan, Ransome’s biographer, and Greg Palmer, then owner of Peter Duck. Readings from the books are by Martin Jarvis, and Arthur Ransome is played by Ray Dyer.
The 25-minute film was produced and directed by Charles Mapleston in 1992 for Anglia TV, and this DVD version is part of a licensed limited edition, in aid of the Nancy Blackett Trust.
