You can grab a chance to see Helen Edmundson’s theatrical adapation of “Swallows and Amazons” in Norwich from mid-August.
The Norwich Players are putting on a production of “Swallows and Amazons” at Norwich’s Maddermarket Theatre from 18th August to 2nd September, with a “Swallows and Amazons”-themed Open Day in advance on 5th August.
Arthur Ransome’s much-loved classic is given an exuberant makeover in this high-energy, theatrically inventive production, with “delightfully catchy and often witty” songs by Neil Hannon of The Divine Comedy (as first reviewed by the Telegraph).
“Swallows and Amazons” originally premièred at the Bristol Old Vic in December 2010, followed by a five-week run at London’s Vaudeville Theatre in 2011 and a twenty-week regional theatre tour. There have since been numerous amateur theatre productions in the U.K. and around the world.
The Maddermarket Theatre is also holding a Swallows-and-Amazons-themed Open Day from 10am to 2pm on 5th August, to which families are invited to come and tour the theatre. It was founded in 1921 in a converted Roman Catholic chapel by Walter Nugent Bligh Monck, then director of the Guild of Norwich Players.
