A rather hot Nancy Blackett and her crew arrived at Middelburg earlier today, with plans to stock up with food tomorrow at Flushing, before an early departure on Saturday directly for Harwich. All being well, Harwich should be reached at around noon on Sunday, with the final leg of the voyage to Woolverstone being completed […]
We are pleased to report that Nancy Blackett and her crew have arrived in Veere, and expect to be in Middelburg tomorrow evening. We are also pleased to report that the Classic Boat article, "Ransome's Lakes Revisited", is now available online, having been written by our very own Chairman, Peter Willis.
The Nancy Blackett and her crew have arrived in Willemstad, having partly sailed, but mostly motored, from Hellevoetsluis. The weather remained fine until the last half-hour of the voyage, when it started raining. Tomorrow's destination is Veere, approximately ten hours away.
The Nancy Blackett and her crew had a mostly uneventful trip up to Hellevoersluis last week from Middelberg, via Steenberg and Willemstad. While she basks under a hot August sun, the ship and her crew aim to make it back to Middelburg on Thursday, before a return weekend crossing from Ostend to Harwich. We hope […]

Nancy Blackett reached Veere yesterday, motoring up and then sailing on Veerse Meer. The crew went to a 60th party with the Hammetts and had a nice meal in a local restaurant. Today, Nancy is in Middelburg for a crew changeover that should be completed by tomorrow evening.

Nancy Blackett made it to Flushing (aka Vlissingen) in just under 24 hours, arriving at 3.15am today (Wednesday), having cast off at 3.30 the previous night. Skipper Bryan Bonser reports an uneventful passage, with very little wind. “We had one hour’s sailing at 5 knots, followed by a half-hour at 4 knots, then what could […]
Nancy Blackett's voyage to Vlissingen in Holland, 75 years after Ransome's own trip, was delayed by 36 hours by both weather conditions, and the discovery on Sunday morning that a bolt holding the alternator to the engine had sheared off. Repairs however were quickly achieved on Monday, once Volspec at Woolverstone Marina were open for […]
Yes – the Nancy Blackett is eighty years old this year! Born in 1931 at Hillyards boatyard in Littlehampton, Sussex, she was first registered as a British Ship, under her original name Spindrift, on 30th March. Her actual launch date is lost in the mists of time and Hillyard’s notoriously non-existent record-keeping. After a short […]
