The Making of Swallows And AmazonsSwallow, the boat used in the classic 1974 film of “Swallows and Amazons”, is coming to Beale Park Boat and Outdoor Show in June. She will be launched on the lake, and rigged with the original patched sail as seen in the much-loved film.

Swallow was rediscovered in 2010 when Turks Boatbuilders held an auction to clear their warehouse of maritime film props. An appeal among Arthur Ransome fans raised enough for the winning bid, and she is now owned by a small charitable trust, Sail Ransome, set up to look after her.

On this occasion she is being brought to the show by the Nancy Blackett Trust, which was set up to own and run Arthur Ransome’s 27ft yacht of that name, which featured as the Goblin in “We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea.”

The Nancy Blackett Trust, which helped with the original fundraising, is currently ‘minding’ Swallow for the season, and will have an information and sales stall in the Craft Tent. Among the items on offer will be copies of the book “The Making of Swallows and Amazons” by Sophie Neville, who played Titty in the film.

The show takes place at Beale Park, near Pangbourne on the Thames, from June 5th to 7th.
