Pin Mill Sailing Club’s Laying-up Supper on Saturday 18th October was a doubly special occasion: it marked 90 years since the club was founded, and Arthur Ransome (one of its first members) arrived with his newly-acquired yacht Nancy Blackett.
Nancy Blackett Trust President Peter Willis presented the club with a memento consisting of Nancy’s cabin front, removed during recent renovations. It carries a plaque reading “Section of the cabin coaming from Arthur Ransome’s ‘Nancy Blackett’, Restored in 2025, the 90th anniversary of his purchase and renaming of her, and their arrival in Pin Mill, Donated by The Nancy Blackett Trust.”
Arthur Ransome and his newly-acquired yacht Nancy Blackett arrived in Pin Mill from Poole, Dorset, on September 27th 1935. The Pin Mill Sailing Club was formally founded on September 29th, and Ransome promptly became a member.
