This year is the 50th anniversary of the 1974 Swallows and Amazons film, with some very special events to celebrate the occasion.

On Saturday 6th April at 2.00pm there will be a 50th Anniversary Screening of the film followed by a Q&A session with cast and crew at the Cinema Museum in London.

This event will be hosted by writer and broadcaster Brian Sibley with the film’s screenwriter David Wood, and will reunite the crew of the Swallow: Simon West, Sophie Neville, Stephen Grendon and Suzanna Hamilton. Further details, including ticket information, are here.

On Saturday 29th& Sunday 30th June a Swallows and Amazons Festival is being held at Windermere Jetty Museum near Bowness-on-Windermere.

The festival will be hosted by Lakeland Arts and the Arthur Ransome Society and include members of the cast and crew sharing their stories. The Swallow and Amazon dinghies used in the 1974 film will be on display, along with Titmouse from ‘Coot Club’. Further details about the festival will be available closer to the event.

Closer to Nancy Blackett’s home territory, Swallows and Amazons will also be shown on Saturday 13th July at the Riverside Cinema in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Further details will be available nearer the time.

For behind-the-scenes stories about the film, Sophie Neville’s book The Making of Swallows and Amazons, based on the diaries that she kept on location during the filming, is available from the Nancy Blackett Shop.
