Amazon, the iconic dinghy used in both the 1974 film and 1963 BBC TV serial of Swallows and Amazons, will be on display at this month’s Southampton International Boat Show, while Sophie Neville, who captured Amazon when she played Able Seaman Titty in the 1974 film, will be giving 4 illustrated talks at the show marking the film’s 50th anniversary.
Amazon, now owned by the Arthur Ransome Society, is based at (and available for hire from) Hunter’s Yard on the Norfolk Broads, and will be brought down from there especially for the event.
Sophie Neville will be giving her 50th Anniversary illustrated talks on the Foredeck Stage at the Southampton International Boat Show on the afternoons of:
- Friday 15th September from 3.30pm – Press Day
- Sunday 17th September from 2.30pm
- Thursday 21st September – Women and Marine Day – from 4.00pm followed by a networking panel and drinks
- Sunday 24th September from 1.00pm
Sophie will also be signing copies of her book about The Making of Swallows and Amazons at Future Publishing’s Yachting Monthly corner stand.
The original version of this story was published by Sophie Neville in August 2023.
