Artist, curator and writer Karen Babayan will be exploring the Arthur Ransome Archive in a lunchtime talk at Leeds University on 21st March, and an evening talk at London’s Armenian Institute on 30th March.

Aiming to establish the Altounyan-Swallows-Ransome connection and celebrate the contribution of the Altounyan family to the cultural history of the Lake District, Karen Babayan explores the relationship between Ransome and the Altounyans, an Anglo-Armenian family from Aleppo, Syria. This ethnically diverse family were part of the genesis for his iconic series of “Swallows and Amazons” books.
The Leeds talk takes place in the Brotherton Gallery at the University of Leeds on Thursday 21st March from 1-2pm, while the London talk takes place at the Nevarte Gulbenkian Hall in London on Saturday 30th March from 7.30-9.30pm.
