This year’s Essex Book Festival will celebrate the 80th anniversary of Arthur Ransome’s “Secret Water” with a very special event in Harwich on Sunday 3rd March.

Peter Willis, Sophie Neville and Julia Jones will be discussing Ransome’s life, books and legacy at 3pm in the Harwich Connexions 1912 Centre.
Peter Willis is the President of the Nancy Blackett Trust and author of “Good Little Ship: Arthur Ransome, Nancy Blackett and the Goblin“, while Sophie Neville is the President of the Arthur Ransome Society, played Titty Walker in the 1974 “Swallows and Amazons” film, and is the author of “The Making of Swallows and Amazons“. Julia Jones published her latest children’s seafaring adventure book Pebble last year and is the owner of another ex-Ransome yacht, Peter Duck.

Claudia Myatt
A companion event is a nautical flags and knots workshop with the Trust’s resident artist, maritime author and illustrator Claudia Myatt, which takes place at 11am.
