Nicola Farr and Richard Wainwright tell the story of this year’s August Cruise.
During her recent August cruise, Nancy Blackett and crew visited Aldeburgh Yacht Club’s Lapwing ‘World Championship’ event. The Lapwing is a 12ft clinker dinghy, exclusive to the Aldeburgh Yacht Club, and built between the 1940s and 1960s.
Following a great sail up to Aldeburgh, Nancy Blackett and crew were well received by the Yacht Club, and entertained by the Lapwings. The Club was very welcoming, inviting our crew to their event dinner and ferrying them to and from the boat. Several Club members, including juniors, also visited Nancy Blackett at her mooring.
The following day Nancy Blackett and crew sailed up the River Alde (with only one grounding) and anchored off Blackheath for lunch ashore, followed by a good sail in gusty conditions back to Aldeburgh.
The August Cruise later continued with a passage down to Secret Water under mainsail and jib in easy conditions. After a well-earned meal in the Titchmarsh Marina restaurant, they returned to Woolverstone the following day.
