This past week Nancy Blackett has been making the most of the recent fine weather with her first summer cruise up the River Alde and back.
In the care of Skipper Richard Wainwright, Nancy Blackett and her crew started her voyage last weekend with overnight stays at Ramsholt (on the River Deben) and Orford. Iken Cliff was reached on Monday after a few groundings on the way, while Tuesday saw the crew enjoy a beautiful evening eating fish and chips on the terrace of Aldeburgh Yacht Club.
Wednesday saw a return to Orford, where one of the crew was forced to leave due to a medical emergency, but has since thankfully recovered. The rest of the crew spent a good day in Orford visiting the castle and the Ness. After a quiet night they set off for Shotley, with contrary winds forecast.
Nancy Blackett returns to Woolverstone today in time for tomorrow’s AGM and social, where she will be taking members of the Nancy Blackett Trust on short sailing trips on the Orwell, before taking part in a Parade of Sail on Sunday.
