Nancy Blackett is registered to enter the Round the Island Race next Saturday (19th June), and we’re planning to use our participation to seek sponsorship for the good causes closest to our heart – helping young people to discover and enjoy sailing.
To make sponsorship as easy as possible for our supporters, the Nancy Blackett Trust has joined up with Virgin Money Giving, which provides a simple and straightforward web-based way of making donations, Gift-Aided where appropriate.
To see how it works, visit the Peter Willis' fundraising page for Nancy Blackett in the Round the Island Race. Peter is crewing in the race (he is also the Nancy Blackett Trust’s chairman) but the beauty of this kind of system is that anyone can set up a page like this to raise sponsorship for any activity from friends, relatives and colleagues.
Our fund-raising will benefit, in equal parts, our own Brigit Sanders Memorial Fund, set up to enable young people to discover and enjoy sailing, and the Ellen MacArthur Trust, set up by the inspirational yachtswoman, who also happens to be our patron, to assist young people’s recovery from cancer through sailing.
And as it happens, Ellen will be firing the starting gun for this year’s race.
