Our charitable purposes and mission

Our charitable purposes are:

  • to advance the education and understanding of the public in the works of Arthur Ransome
  • to advance the education of the public, particularly but not exclusively, young people in the development of their physical, mental and spiritual capacities by the provision of recreational facilities, particularly sailing and allied facilities, so that they may grow to full maturity and as individuals and members of society

Our mission, in pursuit of these aims, is to make Nancy Blackett visible and accessible, and, above all, used.

We remain committed to maintaining her as a living vessel, which is dependent on our volunteer skippers, mates, crews and other members devoted to her care and presentation.

We also remain committed to keeping Nancy Blackett’s original appearance as far as possible, given modern safety requirements.
